It is a prime location for some of the top landscape photographers of recent years; It is also one of the sites of the 2026 winter Olympic Games. It is the dolomite mountains in Italy. The beautiful scenery is called "the pearl of the Alps".

The dolomite mountains are the most unique of the Alps. If you look at the mountains in front of you, they are different from the usual Alps: most of these rocky peaks are pale yellow or gray, completely devoid of grass and dazzling in the sun.

It is believed that 200 million years ago it was a coral reef-strewn ocean. As the climate changed, the water receded and the plates pressed up into sedimentary peaks. Millions of years of flowing water, glaciers and weathering have resulted in what is now a jagged landscape.
The area has an "Italian shell and a Germanic heart" : some residents even speak German as their native language, since it was part of the austro-hungarian empire until 100 years ago, when it returned to Italy at the end of world war I in 1918. The world war left an indelible scar on the area, where hundreds of thousands of Italian and Austrian troops fought each other, often breaking out above the snow line, hence the name "white war."
In terms of tourism resources, there are few places in the world where skiing is the most popular activity in winter and hiking is the most popular activity in summer. Not to mention its natural beauty, the combination of dolomite peaks, valley towns and pastures is nowhere to be found in the surrounding area.
